+and - R are once recordable discs.. you fill the disc up then finalize it... +/-RW.. are Re-Recordable discs.. (like a video tape),..
No diffences in quality.. only slightly in Disc Format.. most new Dvd Recorders can Record on Both... The only Major Difference is when you have a Dvd RAM disc.. which is in a cartridge like Minidisc.. and can only be played/recorded on the Ram players/recorders...

dvd-r(dvd+r is the same) means u can only write files on the disk once
dvd-rw means u can write files on the disk an unlimited amount of times

+ & - are the format thats compatible w/your computer, most are +, only HP's are compatible w/both, R=you can burn on in only 1 time & its permanent, it's a little better quality. RW= you can rerecord on it, a little less quality, but good enough for the purpose of re-recording if you want.
