I'm about to enter my senior year witha dual economics and finance degree, but i really have no real direction on what i want o do after i graduate, not even sure if i want to do business... biggest fear in life is becoming one of those docker wearing, cubical sitting people who hate going to work everyday for 30+ years and have nothing other than an average retirement plan at the end. idk, advice anyone?

Keep involved in a variety of things. Volunteer for something completely different than your work. Make yourself learn something new and attend a group meeting on that subject. Do it not because you like something, but because you might like it.

You will set up an invaluable network of people. If the time comes that you want to switch careers, you will have resources and others to help you along.

I'm scared of the same thing and I'm much closer to 30. Life shouldn't just be about work.

Work to become a certified financial planner. Specialize in managing assets for retirees. Many CFP's are finding out that it helps to go to the homes of the elderly to develop the business. Older people like to stay home, have company and don't like to deal with e-mail, automated voice mail, the Internet and so on. You may even get some good coffee or cookies when you visit.

A degree will help you get amy job not just one in your field. It shows you have commitment and a general good knowledge skills. I'm with you on the going to a job you hate everyday! Most Alaskans are on that same page, come on up here and become a Forestry person or a gold miner!

I just read a book called "Stumbling on Happiness" and one of the most relevant points to you was that research suggested that we regret things that we didn't do a lot more than mistakes that we made (ie: things we did, but wished we didn't).

So, if you have something you want to try, try it. You can always change your mind later. And if you are not sure, choose any old thing that attracts your eye - just keep your options open and don't lay your roots too deep.... that way you can more easier jump on something that makes you excited that comes your way.
