I would say sometimes 4 hour stretches and other times 1 hour all day. Unless you're hitting your baby over the head with a hammer, she/he is sleeping when tired--which is exactly right!!

Your baby knows what is best for him. My 4 month old sleeps 14 hours one day and then the next sleep for 8 and then nap 20 minutes throughout the day. Get him into a schedule.

At night he should be sleeping up to 6 hours in one stretch, wake up, bottle, then another 6 hours... wake up in the morning. Either two hour and a half naps or one 3 hour nap during the day and then start all over. If your baby is waking up sooner than they are probably Hungary. Try nursing an extra 5 mins each side, or adding a couple ounces to his bottles.

My daughter has been like that since she was born. Some days she takes what we call power naps, 3-4 hrs. Other days she takes cat naps, 30 minutes to an hour. What's important is the total number of hours they sleep in a day. Pediatricians recommend 12-16 hrs per day as a healthy schedule.
Hope this helps!

depends..bottle or breastfeeding? at about 4 months old my son (who was breastfed) slept for about a 5 hour stretch at night. (breastmilk breaks down faster than formula, so if a baby is formula fed, this should be longer) then during the day he'd sleep anywhere from 1-3 hour stretches at a time, depending. this age was wierd for my son, though, because he was getting used to his sleeping routine and everything. it really does depend on the child. you'd know if the baby was over tired, believe me. lol. they would be way too fussy to deal with! :0)

I think it depends on the baby. He may be getting enough sleep for him. Is he fussy when he only takes a 1 hour nap. If so he made just need a couple of naps that day. Try to get him on a schedule and stick to it. Good luck!!!

A 4mo. should sleep about 15 hours a day. That is requiered for the energy to eat and stay awake the rest off the day. Ask your pediatrition about harmless sleep medicine to provide the baby.

There is no *right* answer to this question. Babies change their sleep patterns as they grow. Just as you think you have figured out their pattern, they change it! This is all perfectly normal.
You cannot MAKE a baby go to sleep or stay asleep. Just like with adults, when they have had enough sleep, they wake up.
If your baby is awake more than usual and is happy and healthy, just enjoy the extra time you get to spend together.

Every baby is different...I say let him sleep but when he is awake make sure you are playing games with him to learn so he doesn't fall behind on learning because of the stretches that he sleeps.
