Some experts recommend that you stop taking the pill two or three months before trying to conceive because, as well as preventing you from ovulating, oral contraceptives cause changes in the lining of your uterus. These experts believe that if you did accidentally become pregnant, the embryo might not be able to embed itself in the uterine wall. The changes in the uterine lining take a few menstrual cycles to correct, so if you became pregnant immediately after stopping the pill, you might have a higher risk of miscarriage.

Oh dear, how many myths are there about this!
Right, it takes aproximately 24 hours for the drug to be filtered from your system. If you had a drug test, it would not show up after 24 hours.
The confusion stems from the length of time it takes your body to begin ovulating again. This depends on your hormones. You are basically waiting for your ovaries to kick start themselves. This can happen immediatly, or can take up to a year. The average is about 3 months. If you are not pregnant after a year, it may be that your ovaries have not started ovulatiing and you need a drug called Clomid (trade name) to kick start them.
As I said, the drug has left your body after 24 hours so there is NO risk to your baby should you fall pregnant straight away, as many people do. Please don't listen to bad advice or scaremongerers. If you want more info check out these sites.

typically about 3 months, although, some women get pregnant the first month after stopping it
I've heard that it doesn't matter how long you were on it, whether it was 10 years or 6 months. However, that is disputed and some say the longer you were on it, the longer it will take you to get pregnant.
