In the old days barber shops used to supply musical instruments for their customers so that they could hold impromptu sessions while they waited. From this grew the tradition of the Barber Shop singing style.

Perhaps, instead of grubby copies of The Sun, you could have suitable sheet music available.

TVs in places where one waits (Chinese Takeaways and so on) are devilish annoying because one comes in halfway through a program and has to leave before it finishes, only to find that it finished before you got home.

One might go upmarket and have a CyberBarbers with several PCs for the use of customers. Indeed, one might even serve coffee - but I think there might be a problem with conflicting Health and Safety regulations there. Certainly soup would not be on ("Waiter, there's a hair in my soup!").

The best way to ease the wait is very simple. Keep some books, novels or magazines of your interest handy at your work place that you couldn't finish reading earlier due to your busy schedule and start reading them during the wait period before a new customers enters the shop. Play some good music of your choice. You will be killing two birds with one stone. Take care and be in good health.

Hire a massage therapist and offer chair massages. TV is ok, but something other than talkshows. A good movie. Vending machines as ppl are often on lunch hours or too busy to eat.
Gd luck with your new business venture. I hope you love what you do!

They have dirty mags in the place I go to but I've never read them. However, I've noticed a lot of blokes read them whilst waiting and even during the cut - I wonder if they get erections whilst ogling the birds?

Some of their suggestions are very unrealistic. Just a good quality TV, up to date mags and newspaper is more than enough.
