I recently heard on the news that some town was going to put up a statue dedicated to draft dodgers. Do you think this is right? I personally don't see why they need one.

This is obviously a political issue hence subject to peoples opinions. In such cases it is better to have silence. However if it is not the government that is sanctioning this, they can do whatever they want as citizens this country, a country that allows the expression of free speech.

Maybe this is what they forget was fought and sacrificed for by others who faced their responsibilities so that not just within this country, but also outside this countries boarders people could enjoy such liberties.

With that said it does not mean in some cases this could have been done non-violently, but if you look at the case of treatment of the North Koreans and the up and coming threat of nuclear war you could see the rational for not stopping short of the goal.

In anycase it is a complicated issue so I will not straw man, or woman it for that matter the issue. But neither should they do so, in self righteousness, put up draft dodging monuments.

I don't believe our troops our down there fighting for a worthy cause. Bush says that he wanted Sadam, he got him. He says that he wanted the so called weapons of mass destruction, which turned out to be a sling shot and a two by four with a really big nail in it, he got them to. So what we as Americans need to be asking ourselves is "Why are our young soldiers still down there getting killed? What are they dying for? What does Iraq have that may be of interest to president Bush? Hmmm.... Let's see. Could it be OIL?????? Here in America we have the freedom of speech and the right to express ourselves and our beliefs. If gays have the right to express themselves by demonstrations and parades, I can't see any reason this town can't express themselves. If they don't support the war and want to salute those who dodge the draft then more power to them. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

If they want to put it up, I think that's fine. I hope they advertise the fact as well, so that all the truly patriotic Americans will know to stay away, and not spend their money there.

That's freedom of speech, and freedom of association..
