Once upon a time it was an innovative and new genre of music. If you look into the orgins of it, you can see this. Over the years however it has , as as all music, fallen prey to the music industry and reduced itself to whatever will make money at any cost. While I have the same issues with the anti female, pro drug, glorifying violence themes in modern rap music - there is much much more to the genere than that. you can find rap music that praises the positive influences in life, even refrences to religion and faith in family. It's wrong to hold an entire genre of music responsible for the content of the popular representation of it.
For example, there are plenty of country bands out there that produce songs with a clear cut racist message. We don't shoot down all country music for this. There are rock bands that sing the praises of hitler and call for the rise of the nazi party again. We do not condemn all rock music for this. Rap music is in the spotlight, and few people get to experience examples of the genre outside of the low hanging fruit.
If you look at all styles of music you can see where they have gone downhill in the name of the almighty dollar. Rock has gone to hell, country music has become so horrid that there are songs written by country music artists that say so, and even the electronic/new age music has gone downhill to the point of being garbage.
Rap is no more than any other style of music - a form of expression and style unique unto itself. It has also fallen victim to the same problems that all other music ( in the USA ) has. I would listen to sugar hill or old beastie boys long before I pick up any of the current releases.

Rap music, the music part, is a collection of beats that inspire your body to move. The lyrics are, if not just a rambling of cuss words or insults, much like spoken poetry. Not "all rap" is anything, don't be so judgemental. There is always something that will amaze you when you least expect it.
And although I appear blue, don't let that deceive you. We all enjoy moving our bodies and being inspired, colour free!!

...Nothing.... Nothing is wonderful about Rap Music....
The only thing I can think of is that it represents a group of people and what they stand for... I can think of no other reason anyone out of that genre would listen to rap.

rap was created as a form of expression by blacks in the 1980s. it's a form of poetry that is put to drum beats, which are the historical preference of black people. it's the rock n roll to the black community.

What's so wonderful about any genre of music and who are you to put it down? Music is an expression and if some people like it, great. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, but don't put other people down just because they enjoy it. Eminem has a lot of intelligent lyrics.

i particurally don't really like rap music all that much, but the thing that makes it so cool is the beat. i think what they say in the song is completley stupid, but the beat is what makes it so good

whatever ur taste is sweety...some like grape soda some orange and some rootbeer. what makes music good to me is that certain styles and songs i can relate or apply directly to my life...it gives me a sense of identity and partially makes up my self image....so whatever appeals to ur inner self is whats good to you. some like rap but i bet the people that like rap dont like the twangy guitars of country.
