You might get a switch hitter like Chipper Jones who has better power numbers right handed and better average left handed. It drives the manager crazy deciding which pitcher to bring in to pitch to him.

They're hoping that they will not be taking out of the game.
If a right hand hitter comes up in the later innings, the other manager will attempt to bring in a right hand pitcher. Goes the opposite as well.
If you are a fairly efficent switch hitter, this takes bringing in a specialty pitcher out of the game. It becomes better when you have power from both sides and you can hit either way to all fields.
Some switch hitters were awesome in the career (Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murray, et al) but some did give up the try. JT Snow was one of them.
My little league coach wouldn't let me switch hit, because I was so effective left handed. Never got a chance to show the other side.

He's having a slump left handed. He and all switch hitters gain an advantage over certain pitchers. Sometimes a switch hitter needs to give it up and focus on batting one way only.

When there is a right handed pitcher, Managers go with who has the best batting average against a rightie.
Players get more field time if they switch

Because they think they get a better look at the ball by batting the opposite of the way the pitcher throws. Mind over matter, if you ask me!! Look at Big Papi's record against left handers!!

It is much easier for a right handed batter to pick up the spin on a breaking ball like a curve or slider coming from a lefty. This also goes for left handed batters against righties.

They insist to bat that way because when teh pitchr throws a slider or a curveball it breaks to the inside part of the plate an ia easier to hit a ball that is aproaching to you.
