"Hezbollah is not fighting a battle for Hezbollah or even for Lebanon. We are now fighting a battle for the (Islamic) nation."

amenah s, if so why would these be only freedoms for only Muslims. This looks more like religious bigotry to me coupled with the desire to create a one world Muslim nation. This is the larger context that needs to be seriously looked at as the implications are larger than just a piece of land that currently the people of Isreal live on.

VS, I agree with much of what you have to say but I do believe Islam can be reformed. You do not need to change the texts as just as many disturbing things are found in sections of the Old Testament and Jews and Christians no longer believe in killing the infidel. Separating government from religion is a key step to this process. Freedom of speech is another. With the freedom of speech naturally people will come up with different interpretations including many of the things written in the 'Holy' texts of Islam where only historically relevant or even fallible, not necessarily in its entirety.

Maxis, I loved the movie V for Vendetta but I realize it as fiction not fact. Yes, I understand the metaphors and to some extent they are valid. But to go off into vast conspiracy land, or to soley concentrated on one aspect and not the other, is to become intellectually compromised.

And you guys are all typical Western idealists who think that the entire world wants peace and all cultures are equal.

This is a typical statement from an Islamic Fundamentalist, highlightning Islam's battle (which is inherent in the Koran) against non-believers who oppose them.

First non believers to oppose them recently were the Jews, so Israel gets shafted, next up are the Christian and Hindus...and they're targets.

HIs statement is accurate: As per Koranic dictate, true Muslims are to be in a constant state of antagonism and physical battle with non-believers until the Dar-Al-Salaam is reached (until every soul in the world has converted to Islam). That is the purpose of Jihad.

Islam's downfall is its rigidity which does not allow it to reform...much, though not all of Koranic dictate is archaic and inherently opposed to a free-society.

**Incidently there are many Muslims who do not follow this ideology (ie. Turks, some secular Iranians and so forth)...they are more educated and have a reformed view of Islam. But the argument against this is that Islam cannot be changed or reformed because it is the "word of God" (The Koran)...and you cannot reform the word of an omnipotent and omniscient being...Thus the Koran is absolute.

Sounds ominous for the Islamic nation.
Im pretty sure there are plenty of Muslims out there today saying....
" Hey pal......... speak for yourself."
Just further evidence that they dont care about their fellow people.
All the muslims in this world could burn for all they care, as long as the hated Israel is destroyed.
Well, theyre in for one hell of a rude awakening now.
Keep in mind that this whole thing could be over already if Israel wanted it to be.
All with conventional weapons.

Yes, at last a leader has spoken the truth. The whole mid - east conflict is caused by the Muslims wanting to destroy Israel.

It's the same rhetoric you always hear from extremists. His goal is to ignite fury among all the other idiot extremists and make this into something it is not. This conflict is clearly about right versus wrong, not about Islam.
