Hanging up how? Does it have a chain drive transfer or gear drive transfer? Sounds like there's a problem in the transfer. Remove the front drive shaft. If the problem goes away, you know it's in the front end. If it remains....it's definitely in the transfer. Good luck.

Driving normally and turning on a hard dry surface while in 4 low will definately cause the transfer case to hang. 4 low should only be used to pull something slowly and in a straight line when on dry pavement. Other than that 4 low is really designed for driving on sand, loose gravel, or up steep hills where traction is limited.

It's caused by the sh*tty engineering that's found in all GM products.
