People in Paris are nice enough... it just takes some time for them to get to know someone. They don't even look at people they pass in the street, but if you're properly introduced, people of the Parision region can be very warm and generous. And if they do enter into a friendly relationship, it's generally not superficial.
The only Syrians I know also live in the Paris region, and they are warm and friendly, but they're restaurant owners, so it wouldn't help their business if they were otherwise.
