I saw this once , the ship is made to go through the neck of the bottle the mast and sails are folded down with strings attached so that when the ship is in place the strings are pulled to set up the mast and sales , then the strings are cut off and finish work is done using long tools.
It is a craft and a art.

My granddad used to make them. You build a tiny boat with the sails down and tied to a bit of string. Then you have your tiny bottle ready then you feed the boat into the bottle and put it in place. Then using the string you raise the sales and cut off the string and seal the bottle. Sounds more simple than you would think really

You put the ship in the normal way, but because of the glas, it seems to be bigger than the opening. You fasten thin tread in the masts, and with glue in the botton of the ship, it will after it is glued, be able to lift the masts by pulling the thin thread. Got it?

You put the ship in with the sails down ... then you pull the sails up with string then use tweezers to tie it secure.

Think you have to slip it in with the sails folded down forward with a string attached so when it's in you pull the string and the sails come up.
