As I get older, it seems time passes more quickly. I used to wait for Christmas, my birthday, etc. all year, and it seemed like forever. Now I feel like they come around every few weeks!

Almost everyone acknowledges this phenomenon, but no one really knows why this is true. What's your theory?

so true.... remember being in grade school???? each grade seemed like an eon! like a whole lifetime.. probably because we were still growing/learning/becoming the people we are as full grown adults........... maybe when u stop learning/growing time flies.maybe its also all the responsibility!! as a child we only had to wait for Christmas to RECEIVE gifts.... now adults shop in July cuz it comes so fast........... too busy with our lives i think.
work/school/children etc etc etc enough to make ur head spin, if you blink itll be Christmas again!
I am 32 and have just started noticing this about 3-4 years ago.

My theory is the older one gets, the more it takes just to 'take care of' yourself. When we were younger, we didn't floss, use sunscreen, need makeup, take vitamins, have to keep up with medication, doctor appointments, have to do aerobic exercise, strength training, answer a multitude of e-mails, etc! Now, there are a million things pulling at us, and the days of just getting up and thinking, "Gee, I wonder who we can bug today" (that was a prevailing thought when I was 10) is long gone. I cannot remember the last time I even thought about pulling a "practical joke" or anything like that was just done FOR FUN...maybe that is the real answer...we should stop what we are doing...and just HAVE A BIT OF FUN and relish the time we have. Oh, yeah, first I have to clean house...

it's caused be a defect in the human brain that, as you get older, things become less noticable and reactions to things slow down. Thus by the time it takes you to notice what is coming up, the event is already upon you, i e time seems to be moving faster. It also does have to do with the controllers of time. I say controllers meaning plural because there is more then one person who handles the time and space reactions. The effects that they have on the scenarios also make it sometimes seem like time is moving faster.

ever heard the saying "Time flys by when you're having fun" well its because you are distracted with something else to actually notice or pay attention to how fast or slow time is moving.

I think it's that as a child we had soo much to do so it made every day take forever to go by. Now, as we're older, we have a routine that seems to pass things by so quickly. It's like because you've lived each day so similarily, they just all become a blur and seem to make time go faster.

I find doing something out of the ordinary makes time go by a lot slower.

When you have a birthday at 5 it takes another lifetime to turn 10.
When you are 25, what took you an entire lifetime to do now takes 1/5. So at 5, a year is 20% of your life. At 25, 4%.
The birthdays and holidays ARE getting closer as you have more of them.

I think we all are so busy, time becomes relative. It's hard to miss something when you are busy living, enjoying your life. Remember life is for the living, you never know when your last day will come. Have fun, live life don't worry about growing old. My mom used to always say; nothing gets old but clothes and money... I know it doesn't make sense now , but it will as you get more mature and grow in wisdom.

it's actually a top secret government program. unable to rescue social security, they are speeding up the clocks as we age. not only do they fool us, they're fooling our bodies into ageing quicker too. this is also related to the huge increase in the number of perscriptions the average american gets a year. in fact, the program has gotten out of hand and is also responsible for the current middle east crisis. with the cycles of violence formely occuring on neat 25 year intervals, the sped up clocks have resulted in a decreasing amount of times of quiet between the stages of violence. but let's keep this intel on down low buddy, we don't want this getting out.

No one is. It just seems that way. I'm nearly 62,and only yesterday I was 17. I need to ask the question: why are some of you people too lazy to spell the word "you" instead of "u". Has anyone taken English class?

Children do it.Looking at them and how they grow makes us feel old.Plus they move faster than we do,giving us the sense that we have to move a lot faster and always have to play catch up,and when we feel we're not moving fast enough, time seems to go faster.I don't think it's all in our heads, though. My ten year old seems to be more in a hurry these days. When I was his age, time went slower for me.I think time is winding up for something.I shudder to think of it.

Time doesn't change but your perception of it does as you grow older. One day in the life of a teen is more a percentage of their total memories than it is in an older adults.
