A golf-cart? Now that would be a sight on the interstate. LOL
I don't drive much. I took the bus to work for my last job. A monthly pass was $40 for unlimited riding. I will do it again at my next one if it's convenient enough. When I go to the grocery store or need household/toiletry items, I always go to the closest place... about 6 blocks away. And when I need something basic, I walk to a corner-store that's 3 blocks away. For example, I just walked there to get bread and milk. Other than that I'm not a big spender so I don't drive around to shop. Besides, I like shopping online.
An idea of how much gas I use:
I filled up 6 weeks ago and I still have a quarter tank left.

Sell SUV's, heck destroy SUV's. If you have a huge family, you will know that a huge family doesn't even fit in a huge, gas-guzzling SUV. They will fit in an "Econo-type" van.
Drive fuel efficent cars, use public transportation.
I dislike how Americans complain about $3.50/gal gas like it's the end of the world. Europeans, on average, pay over $6 US for 1 US gallon of gas. To combat huge prices, they drive super-effiecient, super-clean diesel powered cars that arn't the polluting, slow cars the US saw in the 70's and early 80's. Best of all, Europeans don't ***** about prices. They use public transport and high-speed trains.

I have been driving a lot less and running all of my errands on days when I need to go to town anyway, like for a doc appt or whatever. I live 20-25 miles from town, so this has helped greatly. Means I'm bored at home more, but it's saving gas money lol.

The most conventional way... WALK!!
You can get a lot of exercise and it doesn't cost anything to do it. I'm not saying walk to some really far place that you have to go to because that would be plain insane, just try to walk if its not that far away, or use the bus and other modes of public transportation. Get a bike or some roller blades and skate/ ride to where you wanna go.

I have a friend who borrows my car for her errands at least once a week for her appnts. and errands. The deal is: she uses my car, she puts in gas! Since I'm consolidating all my errands and using the car less, I haven't bought gas in over 3 months! I'm amazed at all the stuff I'm getting done around the house!

I had the filter changed and the spark plugs. It did increase my milage per gallon. As the price continues to escalate I'm sure I'll come up with many more steps!

I ride my bike/the bus. When me and my friends go somewhere we take the car that gets the best gas milage.
