Do you believe in this statement? Do you believe people who say they are open-minded actually are? Do they accept ALL differences and oppose none? Can one person be that way? What is being open-minded, exactly?

All I can say is that I "try" to be open minded. I think I am in alot of ways, but, sometimes my girls say I'm not. I think being open minded is to accept people for who they are without judging them. Also to accept all races and religions. A person doesn't have to believe everything that someone else does, its just that you keep your mouth shut? Keep our opinions to ourself and accept others for who they are basically. That's what I think anyway.

according to english there is no "perfect" definition of any word or words, because they change every 10 years or so, since English is considered a "Living Language." However, there are "most correct" definitions and a most correct definition of Open Minded would be:

Open to new ideas and suggestions, having a mind open to new ideas, unprejudiced, etc.

Of course, there are plenty of people receptive to new suggetions and ideas (after all ignorance and fear are the main reason most people aren't) remove these 2 reasons and people can easily accept new things. However, being open minded doesn't make one stupid or insane and accepting of anything, nor should it.

I think open-minded might mean -open to what you have to say--without having an opinion, particularly.

I don't know about many people, but I see both sides of EVERYthing-most of the time--so I call myself open-minded for the most part--you know what I mean??

closed minded
let me explain, the term "open minded" as far as I have experienced, has been used as a weapon to put down those whose mind is made up about any particular subject. They will say derogatorily "you should have an open mind". But is not the fact that they will not accept another's staunch opinion, proof that THEY are the one with the closed mind?
Their "open mind" is hermetically sealed closed, towards those they consider "closed minded".

Those truly open minded think unconditionally, not involving their own personal beliefs/opinions to get in the way of assessing a situation. They are far and few between.

Open-minded basically means you are willing to look at/consider anything and any new ideas. It doesn't mean you have to accept said ideas or believe in them. Just that you don't attack them to moment they are spoken without seriously giving the idea thought.

Open minded means you accept evil behavior and rationalize it out of cowardice.

That might not be its intended meaning. But, close to 100% of people mean this when they attach the label open minded to someone.

Although I hold my own opinions, I am open minded enough to listen without fighting to all opposing viewpoints.
