Most step-parents feel that way.

I have two step kids. At first, they were 8 and 9, and we had all sorts of problems. After a couple of years, (and after reading a lot of step parenting books) we started getting along better! Now that they are teenagers... I am getting fed up again! They can be so selfish and self centered. They treat their dad like dirt and that is what hurts the worst. We have never had a GREAT relationship. I am hopeful that will happen when they are adults and have kids of their own!

Why did you marry if you cannot stand the children? As a step child myself, I need people to remember that when they marry a parent, they get the children too.

Please, please get counseling. It is VERY, VERY difficult to be a step parent. Why? Only God knows but it's about the toughest thing there is to do on this earth. But child rearing is very important so that the child isn't damaged more. I say "more" because divorce or separation is likely to be very damaging under the best of circumstances. Please get some help. You've got to be the hero because the kids can't be.

That is just wrong. A child is a child and deserves to be loved even if it didn't come from you. You married there parent and so you are now that child's parent also. so shame on you .
