I have always wondered this... Seriously. I mean, it seems like Jewish people would be pro-personal accountability etc. It seems like they, too, would agree with me that the best "social program" for a person is a job. To have more jobs, you need a strong economy and corporate success and accountability. I mean really - Jewish people are usually highly educated, family-oriented, traditional, successful, responsible etc. What's the deal?!?

Because too many Republicans want a Christian theocracy. You assume that democrats aren't well educated, free enterprise or sucessful. I think Bill Gates and many others would disagree.

And David, I think Ben StEIn is actually a libertarian. (I think a Jewish person would've spelled that right).

And David C - I'm not sure what your answer has to do with the question exactly, but I'm with ya.

Where to start?

A) It's possible to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative at the same time.

B) The republican party (which I belong to) used to stand for smaller government, while now it seems to be selling out to huge corporations to help them line their pockets without concern for the environment. It's tough to raise a family if the government has sold your rights to large corporation.

C) Our current government isn't helping the economy. As soon as China calls in our outstanding debt, we're all in deep, deep trouble. Our grandchildren will still be working off this administration's deficit, if we're lucky. Just because big oil and Haliburton are posting record profits doesn't mean any of that money is going to help the people of this country.

Because they have a intimate knowledge of what a ultra Conservative I'm right and you're wrong attitude does to a country and it's people. The agree with freedom of religion and freedom of press and all of the freedoms the Democratic Party believes in. They do not believe in being judgmental about anyone. And ,especially today, that is NOT a Republican stance.

Republicans tend to be pro BIG business, not small. Also, if you look at the things the Republican party is doing currently (at a time when small businesses are suffering as much as individuals) there are many similarities in behavior with the Nazi party of World War II and before.

I don't think you'll find many Jews cottoning to that

Goes back to FDR. They see his Depression era programs as the salvation (economically speaking that is) of the country. I see it as the beginning of the turning of this country from a nation of ants to one of grasshoppers.

I'm about the only (maybe only) Republican in my biological family. That includes from my mother to third cousins, twice removed.

White democrats are usually guilt-ridden and full of self-loathing. Since democrats traditionally sell out whites in order to exploit minorities, its perfect for them.

Because that's the basic message of Judaism -- "Do not do unto others that which is hateful to you." And the most important part is the last sentence -- "go and learn!"
