Since it's over 6 months old, most banks won't accept it. Most checks have a "Valid for" stamp on them somewhere that tells you how long they are good for past the date of issue. If it is a personal check, then I would ask the person who wrote it to me to re-issue another one, so that you could just take it to the bank and cash it. If it's a business or cashier's check, you can try contacting them and asking them to reissue the check, but I think it's pretty much up to them whether they choose to or not.

If it is a personal check, you cannot cash it after 6 months and will need to ask the payer to make you a new one. If it is a payroll check, you will need to contact HR and ask for a replacement. Most rebate checks have expirations on them, some from 30 days to 180 days, and you are out of luck and money on those if they have expired. Most checks are stale after a max of six months.
Banks will not cash it for you, I was a manager and all banks have that policy to comply with regulation ... if they're doing their job. If they cash it beyond the six months, the bank will take the loss, which they won't do.

Look at the check to make sure it doesn't say anywhere "Void if not cashed in XX days" Sometimes companies have that stipulation on a check and you would have to go back to them and request that they issue a new check. Otherwise, most personal checks do not have that stipulation on them and you should be able to cash or deposit it wherever you bank.

Unless otherwise stated, checks are typically good for 6 months. I work at a bank, and they wouldn't take that check. If a teller did accidently take it, it could still be returned because of the date, if it were returned you would be charged a fee. If at all possible, you can see if the person or business who wrote you the check can issue you another one.

You really need to check with you bank, because you just might have trouble cashing your check, by law any un-cashed in six months from the issue date can be added back in to the the person/companys account,so you may have to contact that person to issuse you another one!! good liuck

Read this site. Some checks give you up to 6 months to cash. You can try to deposit it. It said on this site, it is easy to overlook dates. Or if it's from someone you know, maybe you can ask them to re-issue the check, once you've been re-issued the check you can void the one you have.

Just take it to the bank, they'll cash it for you. The fact that it was written 7 months ago doesn't really matter that much.

Probably have to have person who wrote the check write you another one...Why do you have a 6 month old check just sitting around? If you don't need the money, you can send it my way!
