Yes it is. I am the exact opposite of you. i grew up in chicago and have lived in san diego for a few years. Chicago and san diego have a lot in common just not the weather. chicago summers are nie and you have your snowy days in winter but its not that bad. The bars and clubs are great in chicago and the neighborhoods are a good place to live and meet people.

I've lived in both. Chicago is a great city, lots of fun. However, I don't think the transition from SD would be particularly easy (not as easy as going in the other direction). Chicago is NOT NEARLY as laid back as SD. The weather can get pretty nasty except in the spring and fall. You WILL live more than 20 minutes from where you work. Don't even think that the beaches on Lake Michigan are anything like LaJolla. If you're going to miss having mountains nearby, don't go.

The people are nice, though, and like I said, its a fun city. Good luck.

While I've never lived in San Diego, my husband has, and you'll certainly find that the real estate market is generally much more affordable in Chicago.

If you can tolerate the winters, Chicago is a great place to live (and work... but work is work, no?)!
