Well Obama not a bad choice but all politicians are of a "mind-set" that makes them prone to "selling out" and given over to expediency. To be safe, despite "the loss" of potentially good statesmen like Obama (et.al.) We might do well as a nation to "clear the slate" of all incumbents and prohibit them from running again for at least one term. The problem is the entrenchment of the "old guard" at Capitol Hill, and we will NEVER see REAL election reform and the abolition of the corrupting lobbyists - and all that this "industry" brings with it, until we create a public referendum to do just that and "start fresh."

Hypothetically, I might be inclined to trust a reluctant politician, one who has been compelled by outside circumstances to run for office, who has been elected to his/her first term, and who does not intend to run for a second term.
In contrast, the last person I would trust with political power would be the person who wants it, or who has had it long enough to be corrupted by it. Needless to say, that's most of them.

The only politician I really trust, Red Kelly (Canadian former hockey player) didn't run again after his first term because he didn't feel competent.
Now he's the kind we need more of.

All politicians go for it for the power and prestige and not to do good. In America they won't even get to stand unless there is big money behind them. He who pays the piper gets to call the tune.
Trust them? Don't make me laugh!!!!

I'm a democrat but support my senator, Chuck Hagel (Nebraska-R) He has the political courage to admonish the administration when he feels they're off track. He's a vet who doesn't always toe the party line. I am proud he's from my home state and will continue to vote for him.

Sure there are, many of them. For example, Congressman Ron Paul from Texas and the members of the Liberty Caucus.

I'm from Connecticut and I used to trust Joe Lieberman.
I still trust his integrity, but lately I'm not so sure about his judgment.
