Usally no father in their life being raised by single overwhelmed moms who cant do it all. Gangs feeling more like family to fill the empty feeling where their father should have been/ or mother. Its a chance to feel like they are somebody when they are actually becoming a low life nobody. Society has way underestimated the power of a father in their childrens life. Instead of society helping men be fathers they condemn them when they truly can't afford to pay child support based on the wages they make forcing allot of men further away from their children. If society would stop giving custody to women based upon sex alone and more upon who is more fit for the children then we would see some turn around. But, for right now its faster, cheaper, and easier to put the children with the mother to the courts rather than to take the time and make the right decision. The only way to see less gang activity is to fight for men to have equal rights in custody issues.

lack of acceptance from the people they want it the most. Parents. siblings, teachers, and family in general.
Yes! some people should never procreate, and yes some parents are just bad parents, but overall, today life is hard!
and many parents have to be outside the home to make things work.
Kids are left to think, and feel for themselves without guidance... and when there's a few others that experience the same- they'll gather and share their thoughts and how they dad is a dead beat or how their mom dates more people that the teens do...

*unfortunatle, really.

there are lots of reasons my bf actually used to be into all that n the fact is that a lot of them join so young and get into that lifestyle that they honestly believe that is "COOL" but then there are some that join t feel part of something like a family for protection for a sense of belonging and all that....but THEN there are some that can't see past that lifestyle there are always ways to get out to rise above that life and some ppl get so deep into it that it becomes exremely hard for them to help themselves...and especially if u come from a place where that kind of life is one of the only ways to live..

Young kids are easily swayed into gang life because they want the power that the older gang bangers have.

To feel wanted & appriecaited by others.

Gangs are big families, I'm sure if there were more opportunities for young ppl to feel accepted, loved, and apprieciated there would less need for gangs.

Because they are insecure about themselves as a whole person and feel the need to be in a group - whether it is bad or not. They feel the need to "fit in" and somehow I don't think they get enough love at home. Something is missing in their lives.

Some children are insecure, and acceptance is important to them. If they have to friends or they get picked on allot they see it as a way of fitting in, and it makes them feel better about themselves.
