It depends on what you mean by "use it". You can certainly turn on the computer (laptop) and use various programs on it. However, if your question is whether you can use it to access the Internet then that gets more complicated. For that, you will need to make sure that you are in range of some wireless signal and that you have a subscription to access the network if it is security enabled. Alternatively, if you plan on staying in hotels or motels, they may have network access through cable in the rooms and you could possibly use the laptop to access the network that way.
But there is nothing inherent in the laptop itself that will make it network accessible. When you buy a phone, you usually buy a service contract with it. It's different when purchasing a laptop, such a service contract is not usually part of the transaction.
One more thing, if you have a cell phone that can act as a modem (like the Treo 700) then you could perhaps get online with the laptop using the phone as a modem.

Yes laptops work anywhere just as long as there's battery life in it. If you're talking about the internet, well that's another story. You could get a built wireless card for it and it might work, it just depends where you are...If you call Tech Help or something, I'm sure they'd be able to help you set up some permanent portable internet thing in your laptop.
Oh yeah. Don't actually be driving while being on the computer. May affect whether you get to Canada or not.

He needs to be within range of a wireless access point for your husband's laptop to access the internet. Right now, this is measured in feet, rather than miles.
Unless you are moving to one of the few communities which have set up community-wide access, laptop use from the truck is unlikely. Maybe someday...
There are some hotels that provide wireless access in the guest rooms. And some businesses (like Startbucks) that have access in their stores (for a price). So it might not be completely useless.
He would also need a wireless network adapter on his laptop.
Good Luck

I am going to assume you mean using the internet. You need a network to go online. An Internet Service Provider (ISP).
For example, a cable company provides internet in a house. Basically if you could find restaurants or "hotspots" that would allow you to use their service, then you shuold be ok if you have a wireless card. But do not think that without any special software, would you be able to connect online just going down the highway anywhere you choose.

Sprint has a mobile Internet card available... I don't know what these people are talking about.... Normally you cant connect unless you are using a cell phone...
The sprint card is 49 bucks and gives you unlimited access to the Internet... anywhere.... You don't have to hunt for hot spots...
Yes it works while moving down the road... I have one in my car... You think people on phones are dangerous?? You should stay away from me while I'm trying to read the news during the morning commute

If you're talking about using it with the preloaded programs, as long as you have a power supply you'll be able to use it. But...if you're talking internet usage than you need a connection. Some people use their cell phone for a LAN connection. Many places have gone WIFI. WIFI is great! So, as long as you understand that you may not have internet when you get to Canada, you're fine.

yes he can use his laptop but unable to go online .
I don't know much about this but i think you can use you mobile phone to connect your laptop to the intenet I think you need a compatible phone so if he's wanting internet try looking up more info on internet connections.
If you are moving to canada and want to know to use the laptop there yes you can you just need to subscribe to an canadian internet provider the above part of my answer is relation to your husband using his laptop while on the move.
Hope this helps Jill

Yes, a lot of truck drivers keep laptops in their trucks for mileage reports, etc. You would have to have it set up for wireless internet connectivity is all.

If it is linked to his mobile and he is in a good signal area. Does tend to affect driving ability though! The police may take dim view!
