As long as you make the right choices with how much info to display, it can be safe and fun.
First, make sure your username doesn't include any personal information, such as the name or age. Don't make your profile pic an actual photo of the cousin or anyone he/she knows. Instead, get a pic from image search about something they enjoy, such as a pet. You can also set it to "no photo". Set the profile to private, which prevents anyone not on your friend list from seeing anything on your profile except your username and blog. Also, people on your friend list are the only ones able to message you. Make sure when you sign up, you use the lowest age possible (14). There is a new rule on myspace created: If you are under 20, you cannot IM.
When adding friends, make sure it is someone you already know, eg cousins, friends, etc. NEVER try to meet people on the internet, you could get creppy sleazy people.
Use techniques like this for protection, and Myspace can be really fun.

I don't think he should have one, no matter how good he is with computers. He's too young to have one and I think that people are idiots that have a myspace, xanga, or other blog account where they can post things and possibly get into danger. I don't have one and I think that the world is hooked on the internet and anything can happen. The world is not as safe as it once was because there are more sexual predators looking at myspace and xanga and other blogs and teens and kids get into trouble because of them.

Myspace is great - The thing I like about it most is the way you get back what you put into it - The more profiles you sift through and interact with, the bigger your profile becomes - It's especially good for music bands and such for building up a fan base but definately great for meeting like minds. But I would have to agree with most other users, it's not really a place for children under 16.

myspace isn't really a good idea, especially for younger people. personally i see it as a waste of time and open invatation for someone to steal personal identity from some other people, but maybe thats just me. either way, i dont think your cousin is old enough, considering some of the harmful content out there.

Your cousin is not old enough. Read what MySpace criteria is:
MySpace members must be 14 years of age or older. We take extra precautions to protect our younger members and we are not able to do so if they do not identify themselves as such. MySpace will delete users whom we find to be younger than 14, or those misrepresenting their age.

i wouldn't let my cousin on myspace at the age of ten. he/she is way too young. then you have to take into account that there are alot of pedophiles that have been caught through myspace. just watch the msnbc special called " to catch a predator ".

Myspace is good for connecting with friends, but not for young kids. There's the risk of being approached by too many freaks on there.

I used to be on it a lot and then I kind of got bored with it. I do think its a good way to keep in touch with people that you havent seen or talked to in a while. I dont take it very seriously and I think some people are a little nuts about it but for what I use it for its good.
