In the Army I used both types while on guard duty at Guardpost Collier and Guardpost Oulette inside of the Korean DMZ in the late 80's. The infrared shows differences in temperatures and it does not need any light. It shows warm bodies as a bright red shape, and as things cool off they look darker. Anything about 40 degrees or lower looks black. They are great for watching for live animals. I watched a fieldmouse at about 1,000 yards with the T.O.W. missile night sight which is IR. The starlight type of nightscope amplifies ambient light. It worked just fine in the woods most of the time. In a dark enough place, such as a closed room or a cave, they didn't have enough light to amplify. This type shows everything in shades of green. They are good for most things, but wildlife will show up better with the IR.

In reply to Nani's point Females have 10% better peripheral vision (they see more at the edges) at the expense of central vision. this dates back to prehistoric days when women were the gatherers and child minders and the men were the hunters.

Men have 10% better stereo vision (depth perceptions) than women.

besides this people who have has LASIK do have better vision than 96% of the population as they have their eyes done to exact focus whereas the majority only focus to an approximation at infinity.

so 2 people are partly right

It's hard to understand your question.I think u mean what human need 10% better vision in the type of work they do.
i believe a lot of different job you work at you need 20 - 20 vision. like airplane pilots.

If your colour blind you may have better movement visibility and also be able to differentiate objects (you see movement better than average and can see correct outline of camouflaged stuff) its genetic and more prevalent in men (so we dont get jumped by sabre tooth tigers :O)
