We had some Fire Ants in our front yard in Austin, Texas. We had just move in and I had virtually nothing to work with but I did have a can of "Crack & Crevice" not sure of the brand name, it may have been Raid. It is an aerosol can with a long slender tube on the nozzle. It is designed to be used in homes in the cracks and other tiny places where you can't get conventional bug spray. When you spray it in a crack it foams up to completely fill the area, then the foam dissapates and it leaves a residue all over the inside of the crack. That residue is hard on bugs.
Well I kicked the mound to enfuriate the Fire Ants. Then while they were trying to figure out what was happening I stuck that tube down the hole I exposed when I kicked the mound. When I started spraying I filled the place up as well as I could with that foam and even sprayed a area of about a meter in diameter around the hole.
We lived there for about 18 months and I never saw another Fire Ant in that area. All of the plants stayed healthy and I never found a dead animal in the yard. Based on the results and the lack of colatreal damage I am sold on the product.

I live on a lake and our ants are terrible. We discovered a product called Over and Out. Works better than anything I have ever tried. Kills for the season. Follow directions and as with all chemicals be careful. In side, not sure, would call a professional or talk to someone at garden nursery.

You can make your own ant poison by heating 2 1\2 ounces of corn syrup until it bubbles and starts to brown. Be careful as it will stick if you get it on your skin. Add 1 teaspoon of boric acid and let it cool. When it's fairly cool add 2 1\2 ounces of water and mix it well. You can make small holes in the covers of glass jars or plastic margarine containers and put some of the mixture inside them so only the ants get reach the syrup. Put it out by the anthills and on your cupboards in the containers where kids and pets can't reach them. For the backyard I would prepare at least 2 for each anthill if they are large so you can kill them off qu ickly.
The ants will discover the syrup and send workers to take it down into their nests. They eat the syrup and the boric acid kills them. Usually when one of your containers gets too many ants in it they will abandon it so prepare a fresh one and put it out again.
If you build it they will come. (smile)
Good luck!

Well if you want to safely get rid of them you will probably end up having ants forever. Pour some bleach into the ant hill or spray bug spray. They also have some turf builder w/ bug killer in it that is supposed to last six months I believe Ortho makes it. Good Luck.

Keep your kitchen clean. Many ants are attracted to sugar especially. If you have ant hills try putting warm salty water on them, or just put a cup of salt on the hill. You could also try boiling water.

we get lots of ants in the summer...my mom bought these ant stake things that you just leave on the ground and they crawl all over it and take the poison to their homes and eat it all up and then they dont come back! hahah. but recently they decided that they dont want to crawl up the ant stake, so we just take a toothpick and scoop out the poison and put it on the ground or wall or wherever....its been working for us..im not sure where she got them from, but you could try maybe a home and garden type place.

I sprinkle a few drops of Triazicide insect killer on the mounds and within hours they are gone. Works on fire ants just as well as any other kind. I seriously mean just a few drops, too. Does not take a lot to get the job done.

Get Terro Ant Killer. It's amazing.
The ants will eat it because it tastes like sugar. Then they'll take it to their anthill and share it. In a couple days, all of the ants will have eaten it and they'll all die.
I've used it several times over the years and it ALWAYS works. it kills every last ant.

search for an environment friendly insect killer that you will most likely find in one of your local stores. spray the stuff into the holes and they'll just die.. keep on searching for hills and stuff cuz ant hills are very intricate networks.. so keep spraying.. observe where they're coming from.. spray again.. repeat and repeat until you don't see them anymore.. observe for a few days.. repeat if you see some again.. they're very prolific and numerous.. so it'll take some of your time.. but it's worth it.. =)
