Chevy Chase Bank in the Washington DC area has a machine similar to the coinstar machine and they do not charge you to use it. Maybe other banks across the country do this as well.

Also, if you have a bank account, they will exchange the coins for bills free of charge without wrapping them, however, you will have to wait a few days to get your money.

All in all, you will either have to pay for the convenience or make it more convenient for those who you give the coins to.

Some banks will count the money for you. They have sorting machines. Takes about 2 minutes. Ask beforehand--- they'd probably like you to open a little savings account first... which isn't a bad idea at all.
