Yeah. The Wacom tablet is about the only professional choices. They have a couple of different sized tablets, but I have found bigger isn't necessarily better. The small 6x9 tablet works really well.

For the price and quality. Get a Medion tablet. The one I have was $30.00 and huge. Pressure sensative and easy to install and use. Had it for 2 years now. PaintShop7, Ulead and Photoshop recognize the pressure features of that tablet.

What are you trying to do? Do you mean you want a medium that works well for scanning into a digital image? Most white paper works fine for that.
I have found myself that painting on a regular canvas is difficult to take a picture of, and still preserve the value of the original. You either have to use a flash or rely on ambient lighting, and either way the color doesn't come out right.
