I was born with blue eyes but my parents have brown eyes. Most people don't believe me because they think it is impossible for a African can be born with blue eyes.

First off, the buffoon who said, "Genetics doesn't always decided what color your eyes are" is completely wrong. Genetics decides everything.

Blue eyes are recessive. Brown eyes are dominant. The recessive genes for blue eyes never existed in true Africans. However, somewhere along the line, someone on your mother's side of the family and someone on your father's side of the family had a baby with a white person. Who knows, it could have happened back in the slave days (and most likely, it did or else you'd have knowledge of a white grandparent or great-grandparent). Then, the recessive gene for blue eyes filtered down for a few generations and stayed recessive because it didn't have another recessive gene to interact with. Well, your mother had it and your father had it. Therefore, the chances of their kids having blue eyes is 1 in 4. If they had 12 kids, it's most likely that three of them would have blue eyes.

Overall, you're not different than anyone. You're a product of genetics and it's quite a sexy product if you ask me.

Now, here's a little bit of info for you...

If you end up having a baby with a guy who has blue eyes, you're guaranteed to have blue eyed children. Why? Because people with blue eyes only have the recessive gene for blue eyes. They can only produce blue eyed children. The eye color of your children will be based completely on the father of your children. If he has no recessive gene for blue eyes, then your kids will have a different color. If he has one dominant gene for another color, that will take precedence over your recessive genes.

Overall, you're normal. Africans can be born with any color eyes; however, the gene for the other color had to have been introduced into your family's gene pool at one time or another since Africans do not naturally have that gene. So, overall, you can thank two of your ancestors (one on mom's side and one on dad's side) for your eye color because one of them had a baby with a white person.

Genetics determines everything about how you look.

It may be a recessive trait in your family...My entire family has dark eyes but one sister has blue. What you are describing is not uncommon, so no there is nothing 'wrong' with you. Be happy that you have something unique amongst your family.
