From numerous things I've read and seen on TV (and I'm not sure if they're true or not, but they sure make sense), she was probably murdered. I had read that on the night of her death, Bobby Kennedy and Peter Lawford were at the house. She had affairs with both Bobby and John Kennedy and they had told her some White House "secrets"--private government matters. When they wanted to break-off the affairs, she didn't want them to, and they were afraid she would reveal some of the secret information they told her.
Supposedly, whoever spent the last hours with her, staged the scene to look like a drug overdose (that SHE took herself) and it is said that the coroner found some needle marks on her body that were very small, and supposedly, someone had injected lethal doses of drugs into her. Guess we'll never know the whole truth.

She died of a drug overdose, but it is still hotly debated whether is was suicide, accidential overdose or murder (involving the Kennedy's no less) still to this day.
From all of the books that I have read, my vote would be for accidental overdose. She had mixed drinking alcohol with prescription medication in the past but there had been a very recent change in one her prescription medications and it could have made enough of a difference to cause her to overdose. As the investigation was totally botched from the beginning and autopsy samples "misplaced" when they went to reinvestigate, we will never know for sure.

There are those who believe she was killed by the CIA because of her involvement with the Kennedys. As for how, it was most likely a poison suppository that would dissolve and leave no trace for the technology of the times to detect.

The ones that forced her to swallow those sleeping pills made her die of an overdose. That's how.

i think suicide, but others say she took overdose of sleeping pills! i think the first is more possible and closer to the truth

I think it was overdose, but it's just a misfortune that no one knows what "really" happened
