There are a lof of people that watch FOOTBALL once every 4 years, or maybe even for the first time in their life that comment on this forum. They read about Zidane's football skills, and see hiom on the pitch and make him into a god. Zidane is a great footballer, however he has always been a dirty player as well. He has been red carded 14 times in his career and not just for fouls but for unsportmanlike conduct. Punching a player, stumping on the head of a player, these are common things for Zidane. He has twice received 6 game suspension which is a rare feat and this kind of suspension is given under extreme cicumstances - you do the math.
Beides he also did not earn the golden ball and with his actions even if he had earned it he should be stripped of it now. Cannavaro and Buffon both played tremendous throughout the whole world cup, whereas Zidane was missing in action in the frirst 3 games, played 20 minutes against Spain, played terrific against Braazil then had two decent games in the semis and finals. Why would he even get the award? Because he converted a PK that never existed in the final, or he tarnished the sport in the final. Give me a break. He has wlays been a dirty player and he got luck that he was retiring because otherwise he deserved at least a full year suspension.
And he was given one more chance to be a gentleman. To apo;ogize from everyone. Not just kids, but from all his fans and from all football fans. But what did he do? He said "I apologize to the kids, but I do not regret my actions. In fact I should have punched him in the face"
Basically saying " Hey kids. If anyone talks trash to you go and hit them"
that is being a gentleman? Please.

The main problem here is that the 2006 World Cup Final was watched by billions of people, and most of them do not have so much understanding of soccer rules and regulations.
They watched and commented the game based on their culture and their believes. So, for some people verbal abuse is "worse" than headbutting. For some others, Materazzi should even press charges on Zidane. Everyone has its own opinion, based on where they live and on how their society is structured. Great! I understand all of that!
BUT
A soccer match (such as the World Cup Final) has its own rules and in this case they were properly applied on the field! Anything else is just pure speculation from the media and from people that like to complain about everything (without real knowledge of the game)

Why don't you do some research about Materazzi. He's a cheap, dirty player....
With that said, yes, Zidane's headbutting was wrong and no matter what the greasy italian said, he shouldn't have let his temper get the better of him.
You can't just erase 10+ years of amazing football. Zidane is one of the most talented players to ever grace the game of football. So, while his exit out of the world cup wasn't graceful, it can't take away what he has given to the sport.
So.... give the guy a break. Move on and find something else to worry about

Hi forzagila_11 !!
This is getting way out of hand! You post a question asking everyone if they agree that we shouldn't talk about Zidane or Materazzi everyone agrees..after a minute what do you see?? Another question!! And I myself am guilty of this, but I'm not going to let anyone trash my team or my country when they worked so hard to earn the World Cup!
Sorry as for your question I've also tried to explain that Materazzi could easily press charges against Zidane...It's never going to end!
I just thought of something..we should start a petition for Yahoo...WHO wants to put a STOP to all this crap? What do you think??

zidane shone during brazil-france,then after that what happened?? can we still consider him as the best player?? NO!!!
and that incident thing with the italian was a proof to NOT CONSIDER him as a good role model not only for kids but for us, soccer lovers. then he made it worst when he had an interview that he was sorry for the kids for seeing that kind of reaction towards provocation on the court, OMG it was horrible for a man to tell children that he wasn't sorry that he hit somebody. i'm sure his coach and team mates are ashame to call him a golden ball winner. theye should really strip off the award, bbc news also wrote some article about zidane winning the award that should have been cannavaro.
coach domenech(france) said that materazzi (provocated zidane) should have been the "MAN OF THE MATCH" in the final instead of pirlo, beacuse he really did an extraordinary performance. it's like saying "zidane, you should kiss materazzi's a*s, because you head butted him when you realized he's performing better than you do"
let us compare the goals made by france and italy,
zidane(france)- freeshot penalty
materazzi(italy)- assist by pirlo
which goal is better?
who's performance is better?(in the final game)
zidane is only considered as veteran for playing morethan 10 years, but if we're going to compare the performance in that game, materazzi was better. zidane should thank materazzi, coz he fouled malouda and gave him a freeshot penalty.

Hi,
I personally do not believe that either of the two are innocents. But the fact is that Materazzi conducted a dirty task in a match, which was watched by possibly billions. If this is what is going in the texture of the game, how can we be proud to have spent our valuable times for watching people who do not have any descrete values inside themselves.
Actually, I am neither an Italian nor a French. Surprisingly I was willing to see Italians victory before the game. I knew little from French Football and Zeidan before. But the action of the Italian player made me re-think about the whole competition. Wearing nice sport wears and jesting heroic while being so mean in disguise is not something we should tolerate. Do we like to be fans for idiots? Certainly not.
If Zeidan is remebered, it is because his action revealed something ugly in the football match. Zeidan's action caused some to scrutinize on the issue. If Zeidan had said nothing, whether or not French team would have won, this ugly behavior would be in disguise and would continue. If FIFA re-sets the final match, nobody would dare to act dirty in sports fields and it would be a lesson not only for the sport games but also all social occasions around the world. I am in favour of sending a petition to FIFA to ask them have anther game between Italy and French.
I would like to suggest having a petition to FIFA to Re-Set the final Game. Don't you believe if this happens, the impacts would be great in all our life around the world? Sports and world cup were really meant to upgrade human being qualities and values.

For sure Materazzi wanted to prvoke Zidane. It was obvious the Italians were not playing as good as the french. But excuse me , if any moron insults my Mother and sister, he deserves punishment. Of course, Zidane is not the authority to punish, I think symbolically he wanted to tell that filthy guy that certain Italian culture is not tolerable. Zidane is a legend anyway. And that Materazzi is good at calling names only.

once he headbutted a wall, lost his mind and went around the world. He believed to be an elephant.
Now poor zidane is hunckbacked since when materazzi put the co-ck in his hand.

I think as a fan it was bad he ended his career like that but it was definitely his choice. Did you know that Zidane was suspended in the 1998 world cup (in France) for - guess what - Stamping on an opponent? Also, let's not forget that he was yellow carded twice (and therefore suspended) in the first round of this World Cup? And his exploits with Juve.... anyway, who cares, Italy wins, in 20 years nobody will remember Zidane's little headbutt...

let's be honest..no man is really a true gentlemen..everyone of us has his/her dark side..in zidane's case it's his temper (or shall i say his patience??)..he's no angel- just another human being like all of us..its true his face exudes a zen-like serenity but most of us who follow his footballing years know that he had been sent-off many times before and he also had headbutted and stamped other players before..but did he did all that on purpose? obviously not..only a mad man would do such thing without reason..he was provoked- like he said- but of course it comes with the job and i'm sure he of all people knows that..like what his agent said- he usually let things wash over him..but sometimes you just can't take it anymore..when you keep hearing all these crap over and over again..it makes u want to blow your top off..you want it to stop..how you stop it depends on the person..for zidane its physical..and unfortunately for him zidane just couldn't take it anymore when materazzi provoked him..and because it happened at a world cup final and that it was also his last match, that moment of madness will always be remembered..and reported and discussed over and over again by the media and everyone else around the world..no..zidane is no gentlemen and no man in this world really is..although most man tries to be one, but when it comes to certain circumstances (in zidane's case it's provocation over and over again) his dark side will ultimately show himself..we are all human beings..non of us is perfect..all we can do is change ourselves to become a better person..having said that..let's just leave the man alone and get on with our life, shall we?
