Most liberals are ok with fighting the people who attacked us on 9-11, but we are in a war with Iraq. I'll admit we had to get him out of there and we are doing some wonderfull things, but I wish it had happened honestly. And it is time for them to come home.

If you are referring to the war in Iraq, your blissfully ignorant of the situation. We aren't fighting terrorists there, nor are we fighting for our freedom. We are going into someone else's country to force them to accept our way of life. We weren't asked to go there, nor are we wanted there by most of the people (or most of our people). If you are referring to the "War on Terror", liberals are realists. They know that you can't fight a war on an idea. Terrorists are all over and the only way to truly combat them is to find out why people are joining up. I the case of most of the organizations we are currently fighting, that is because we are in the Middle East fighting a war that doesn't involve us. For the case of the ETA in N. Spain, they are fighting to separate their country (the Basque Country) from Spanish control. We liberals realize that fighting terrorists only make them stronger. However, there is the problem with the ones who actually attack us. We still need to punish them and that's why you probably won't here a sane liberal say that we should stop our search for Osama bin Laden.
Next, I think you are posting this on the wrong forum. This is the Gay and Lesbian forum, not the politics one.
Finally, I will leave you with a question: Why do conservatives feel everyone should be exactly like them?

I wonder why too ...I call it POLITICS of the world!!!
While many people dont agree with Saddam regime, on the contrary others might think war is not the answer! However, there is a danger of going to War especially civilians are the most likely to expose with fear of being killed and face problems i.e elderly, women, soldiers, babies and children. More than 1000 innoncents of USA armies, Iraqi people have been killed for what?
While USA is quite high tech there must be the way of removing Saddam without have to go to war. Billions are used for this War and why waste so much money? The money could use to develop and improve the nations' military, borders, people, homeless, cure deseases and develop medicine!!! It seems that this war could end up same like the Vietnam war. Nobody wins except oil rich cronies, companies, politicians and bosses?
Why so many Republicans disagree with the facts about global warming and reject science totally? Why surrender to danger?
I mean both issues global warming and Iraq are highly political and everyone has their own agenda, motive, idelogy, interest to protect and make a stand! What about gay- marriage and homosexuals? Why many conservaties rejects same-sex union? Why majority of heterosexuals rejects it? Double-standard, bias, prejudice, ignorance, bully, idelogy? Name it!
If someone from different group try to suggest something, many will disapprove it! Vice versa.. Go figure...and think before you post...DUH!

Are you as ill informed as you sound? Do you think we have put an iota of a dent in terrorism? WE are fighting a war for oil, not terrorism...give it a rest, open your eyes and start looking at things from all perspectives. The administration is in this for one thing only...money for croonies and supporters, not terrorism. We have NOT caught the main terrorists, the terrorists are more active now than they have ever been, and you are sitting there accusing those who want to save our troops of being Pro terrorists? Have you lost your mind? Come back when you can see things as they really are, not through a cloud of right wing propaganda you so eagerly ingest via the spoon of the Administration. This is the worst administration in the history of the US. There is no doubt about it in any sane person's mind. Please don't make more of a fool of yourself ... read the papers, watch the news (poor source for anything, but better than nothing) and don't assume that all the media is left wing lunatics...they are not! Open you closed mind to truth...it will set you free. Perhaps everyone else, who you are complaining about, knows more than you do...sounds as if they do to me.

What?
Let's take another look at this -- with rational eyes, shall we.
Let's look at several different items:
1. When we knew where Osama bin Laden was -- President Clinton launched a missile strike. What was the conservative response? The Republicans attacked him for his unprovoked attack on the floor of the congress and suggested that he wasn't trying to safe guard America, but was trying to deflect attention from Monica Lewinsky. So fevered was the response that we did not make another attempt on bin Laden, though we could have.
Had bin Laden died in that missile strike, or had Clinton been allowed to continue to pursue him, and subsequently the CIA had killed him -- there would have been no terror attack on 9/11 -- would there?
2. The Invasion of Afghanistan as a response to the attack on the WTC. Nearly everyone supported this. My lover of nearly 15 years considered concealing his sexuality (difficult at best since we were a registered domestic partnership in NYC) and entering the military. With deep misgivings I did not try to talk him out of it. The deep impracticality of "don't ask, don't tell" finally did talk him out of it. We supported the invasion and we continue to support an Afghanistan free of religious fascists.
3. The invasion of Iraq -- THIS IS OF COURSE WHAT YOU WERE REALLY TALKING ABOUT. There was not, and is not any evidence that Iraq was involved with terrorism prior to our invasion. There is not and was not any evidence that Iraq was creating weapons of Mass Destruction. The apparent evidence was, as we now all know -- manufactured.
Yes, Hussein was an awful man, but America is not the world's policeman -- as it evidenced, for example, by allowing the Sierra Leone disaster continue. While being an awful man Hussein created a climate in which secular democracy could begin to grow. He suppressed the Islamo-fascists by force, supported secular education and allowed rights to women (who have actually gone backwards from equality under the present constitution). He controlled sectarian killing (brutally yes, but he controlled it) and he advanced science.
Our invasion was, whether anyone likes it or not, an immoral act of aggression toward a sovereign power, no different than the acts that were made by Germany in WWII. If nothing else, many of us on the Left are consistent. If what Germany did, and for which they claimed the EXACT SAME EXCUSE, is wrong -- then the US doing it is equally wrong.
What makes it far worse is that we failed. We have created the terrorist breeding ground that we said we were trying to eliminate. On 9/11 the vast majority of the terrorists were Saudi and none were Iraqi -- I very much doubt that a similar attack today would have the same mix of participants.
I have incredibly confused feelings about what we should do now. I hate seeing our kids dying in a lost cause, and it is now a lost cause. The best thing for us to do is probably partition the country in three parts and have the oil revenue shared so that all the people can survive.
I have very, very close Arabic friends, ranging from my age (a couple in Milwaukee, who are Arab Americans) down to the youngest being a gay boi of 15 in Iraq who communicates with me by email and is so scared. Before he would be second class, but now, he is sure that once the Americans leave, he will be put to death under Sharia law. He has been trying to find an American officer who will love him and have the clout to take him with him out of the country -- but, while he has found some Americans who are willing to..... be satisfied.... with him, none will destroy their careers by admitting they are gay. So he is beginning to prepare to die, which makes me so sad.
Other Arabian bois I know have said that we invaded wrongly. They said overwhelming force, shooting all opposing Imams at once, the moment they spoke -- would have won the day for us and now the country would be quiet and peaceful. They said that the Imams only understand force.
They also say its too late now. Two of them have told me in the last few days that although we don't understand it, there is a full scale civil war happening around our troops now.
If that is true I don't know what good we can do.
Regardless, the War in Iraq was NEVER about terrorism, that was a front from the beginning. It was about oil, and avenging Saddam's threat to Bush Sr. And opposing anti-democratic Imperialism is much different from opposing pro-democratic intervention.
Lastly, why is this in the LGBT section?
Regards,
Reyn

One: you're in the wrong section asking this question!!
Two: I'm not running from fighting terrorist! I don't think fighting is the answer. I mean because of this war, innocent people die everyday...and note that I said innocent... Its great people are willing to die for their people and country but what about all those little kids over seas that die because of those people... I'm not saying that we shouldn't protect ourselves or that people who do wrong should of unpunished I'm saying that innocent people have the right to live as well.. Killing is still killing if it be war or a single murder!

its a waste of money. What if we declared war on hackers. If someone can create a program to keep them out then someone will create a program to get around it. We just have to deal with it as it comes, do what we can to defend ourselves, and only follow what we know is right. We can blow half of the world up and there will still be terrorists.

I could ask the question, "Why do conservatives think that terrorists lurk in every corner like the boogy man?"
Would this describe who you are?
Making broad generalizations based on unfounded assumptions can be very harmful, and certainly misleading.

I really did not have anything else to do today. I watered my lawn, did some weeding, mopped by bathroom all before 11am. So I thought to myself "Hey dummy your liberal minded, why not surrender to terrorists today" so I did.
