What if I was on Earth...how would I be living? Would I be in a house with my family, not a communal living hall? Would I go to school? I've already done school, of course. The starship ride we took to get here consumed the first twelve years of my life, so I used that time to do school through the psychocomputers. But, if I was on Earth, would I have friends? Would my life be normal?
Sorry, it's the air here...they accidentally put some weird chemical into the oxygen tanks and it's making everyone feel really reflective. My mom keeps going on and on about what would have happened if she's gone to the prom with Jim instead of Greg.
Anyway, right now I'm on Newton V. This is by far the best planet in the Newton Solar system (people on Earth call it that, so I figured I'd use your degrading name so you know what I'm talking about. But I suppose you don't know where The Newton Solar System is. I've heard that only about three people on Earth know about this Solar System.)
Anyway, the only drawback about this planet is the atmosphere. It never exists between 25:30 and 32:15, so we all have to wear these huge oxygen tanks. no one really knows why it goes away, or how it comes back, as long as it does, and not enough Earth scientists know about this planet to reasearch it. Our scientists could, if they ever got any spare time. We're a relatively new colony, so they're busy finding potable water and what crops can grow here. They're also trying to set up a wormhole so all the newton planets (we call them just the Planets) can be connected. It's some sort of political thing, really, because a bunch of isolated Xertrins on newton III have been rioting about our settlement here. We've told them, we'll leave their planet alone (it's not like they ever leave it anyway) but now that they realize they are actually part of the larger newton system, they're trying to claim that they actually to have people on each planet. That is complete baloney, of course. No one has ever seen a Xertrin on any other Newton planet, but they keep pointing to normal things like rock formations and saying that those are ancient dwellings of their ancestors who were, supposedly, killed as soon as we arrived. So the portal is supposed to stp this. The idea is, once they see how things really work, they'll want to be more cooperative and honest. I don't really understand anything else about it, except that it will make travel a lot easier. Not from here to Earth, of course. That oftion is pretty much out of reach, since the only spaceship in the newton Sytem crashed on our colony's journey from newton I to Newton V. most people survived, all actually, except for some suicidal idiot who decided to see if they could survive the crash once it actually hit the ground. We all left in huge floating spheres about five minutes before impact. They were safe, but boring. They were so light and safety-conscious-ly designed that it took the better part of a day (33 hours) to float down. I was in one of the first to reach the ground, so I got the faster version. My little brother and my cousin got theirs caught in a breeze, so it took them 30 hours to reach the ground. Thankfully, the previous colony's people were there waiting for us, so they took us all in and told us about the weird atmosphere and things like that.
Other than the atmosphere problems, our planet is great. The sky is transparent during the two hours of night we get before the atmosphere goes away, so we can see the whole amazing Solar System, and newton V's eighteen moons. During the day, the sky is a pale lavender color, with light puffy clouds. The earth is soft and fertile. Huge trees at least five times as tall as me dot the landscape, and soft moss serves as grass. The animals are much like the animals on Newton I, where our group lived for about four years. They have a minimum of three legs, are either furry or scaly, and have no discernable eyes, though you can tell they can see bettter than we can. they are generally about half as big as we are, though there are some exceptions, like the humonguous animal that only lives on newton V, the Washington (another Earth name; we call them something else, but we have a different alphabet, so i can't express it here. It sounds a bit like shhh-ya-ka-put. I can't even do it justice when i speak it; the natives of Newton V have two mouths, and use both of them in almost all their words.)
Anyways, it's almost 32:15, so i have to go. the scientists get mad if you keep their air tanks past 33:20, and i have to trek across a huge forest to get back to the Science Center. We plan to make our first contact with the U.S. President in about a day, so maybe you'll hear about us then.
