Just go and get them done- get short ones so that she won't notice. But, she is right, they will mess up your nails more. It'll make them really thin and brittle.

Like your nickname, by the way:)

Ok Well im a licenced Cosmotoligist and to be honest you need to do your homework first get educated on what you are about to do.. Many nail places use dental acrylicwhich is very harmful for your nails and your body. Another thing if the prices are cheap dont do it a gallon of FDA approved acrylic can run up to 200.00 a gallon. MMA can run up to $20 - $30 a gallon so if you see cheaper prices thats why. In my salon we have booklet educating you about acrylic nails if it is done right there is no harm. Good luck

rather than worry about getting your nails done - why don't you ask for ways to help you break your nail biting habit?

I'll tell you if kids today used their time , effort and creativity for productive things rather than trying to change their parents minds and submit to the authority they have been given - things would go a lot better for them.
Rather than "talking your mom into it" consider that she has good , valid reasons for not letting you get them done and very wise of her to do so. Respect the experience and wisdom she has and learn from it instead of fighting it.

In the meantime, you might ask her to do something more practical to help oyu to stop biting your nails. A general manicure , (just taking the time to take a little better care of my nails helped me to be more aware and stop biting them), maybe a nasty tasting nail polish, put a brightly colored bandaid on a finger as a 'reminder' not to bite your nails. There are a lot of ways you can avoid biting your nails- get creative and put your energies towards that.
Acrylic nails are not as cheap as you think- they take a lot of maintenance, destroy your natural nails, make a good breeding ground for bacteria and infection underneath.

They WILL mess up your nails and the nail that grows under them will be so weak that they will break as soon as you take them off...for years I got fake nails and then I started taking a vitamin supplement and my nails started growing...have you tried the polish that tastes bad to get you to stop biting them if not try it also try wearing a hair band around your wrist and playing with it when you want to bite your nails...

your mother is right... i had a friend who had the same problem as you, she bit her nails and got tips. the tips slowed down the rate of growing her nails and now she regrets putting the nails on.. believe me its not worth it at all..
