Unease with dancing barefoot is common with people who are new to modern dance, so you're not alone. Your feet just get used to it and toughen up. In fact, using a foot thong will just prolong building up calluses where you need them, so why not go through the awkward stage right in the beginning?
Meanwhile, why was your "What is a modern dance class like?" question removed? I especially liked one person's answer and put that question on my Watch List in order to save it. That question provided some of the best content this section has seen in a long time.

I had the same problem when I started modern dance because I was used to ballet and pointe shoes. You can try wearing foot thongs, they may look like they don't help but they really do.

Are you talking about dancing barefoot with movements? If so that means you never dance barefoot always with shoes on? Not really understanding but if this is what you are talking about JUST TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES AND DANCE

Do a lot of exercises to strengthen the arches in you feet (i.e. arching and then flexing them), roll your feet in a circle to get the fluid moving and it helps them let you spin and move easier, make sure to use lots of lotion on your feet (when your don't dancing of course, don't want to slip and fall lol) to keep your skin baby soft so you have an easy time spinning, practice walking on your tip-toes (remember to keep the weight more towards your big toe rather then on all the toes so you don't sickle out), and thats about all ihave lol

I don't think you'll have any problem dancing barefoot. The only problems I have are turning. You can try a foot thong, which really helps:
