How else are they gonna sell those stupid mags?
As a teen, well I still am one, I used to read about automotive engineering, but I guess girls would go more for the crap about fashion and the like.

It's kind of like the "sub-limeinal" commercial.. the soda pop commercial thats got all green and yellow and they keep saying subliminal things out loud "lemon" "lime" "sub-lime-inal" and the lady lays down, they shock here tongue with lemon and lime paddles, she's refreshed with the soft drink.. well.. magazines do the same thing.. sublimal messages by "looking at beauty', these girls want to be beautiful. But the companies don't want the lawsuits from telling girls to 'diet" and "sunbathe".. or other health risks.. get it? they would be at risk.. so they have to print the opposite.. don't spend time in the sun.. but we will place a gorgeous girl with a tan who has.. and an ad for a sunless lotion or a tanning bed.. options.. marketing..
I don't buy magazines anymore. Not a single thing in any one of them I find interesting or helpful.. and the recipes..ick.. If you aren't happy with yourself.. YOU are the ONLY one who can change it. Not something in a magazine.

That's not an oxymoron, that's redundant.
And it's called "marketing". If they outright said, "Hey! You're ugly! Buy these products so our eyes don't suffer!", they would be sued from here to ******* Jupiter.
And by saying "Oh, it doesn't matter how you look as long as you're happy and healthy!" the parents of the teenagers who BUY the magizines, will believe they're children are reading proper material.

I remember thinking that years ago: What kinds of hairstyles do boys like was one article - soft, smooth, simple was the answer. Next article - how to wow them with your hair - shellacked, uplifted and untouchable.
Don't they read their own magazines.
Women's magazines are the same - articles on losing weight and recipes for chocolate cake.
I guess they want readers - some will focus on one type of article, others will focus on the other. Broad spectrum (no pun intended).

I agree with you for years. I prefer to use the term HYPOCRITE, and yet ... so, our little girls are still subjected to it. Men's magazines are getting to be just as bad. Ever read the "what women really want" and then flip the page to "100 hottest girls" countdown. Guys don't even know if they want to be with a real woman or a plastic barbie doll.

It's called BRAINWASHING, Why else is society the way it is today? These magazines have brainwashed the kids to think (or not to think for themselves) that being skinny beautiful fashionable but DUMB is the way to get on in life.

Yeah, it's like the girls in their magazines are just naturally tan and naturally skinny! "Look at these girls, but don't try to look like them - it's unhealthy." Good observation. I think those magazines are all about making sales than trying to help the public anyway.

i think mags work that way because for all the complaints from consumers, people wouldn't buy a magazine featuring more normal girls. we have it set in our minds that models should look a certain way and most aren't willing to change their mental opinions. as a side note: i think "glamour" does a pretty good job of writing about self-love and all that. i used to be a cosmo girl before i realized all the articles are about how to please your guy and make him happy.
