Yes, the fan's bearing is about to give up on you. Replace.

I had the same problem. My wifey used to come into my room and asked what is that tractor running in your office? It was so loud, I could not work at nights without waking her up.

I changed the fan. Easy, five minute job. It is now purring like a cat. Quiet as a mouse. I'm so happy.

Should have done it months ago and should have saved all the aggravation.

How old is your computer? Where is it located? The fan draws in dust. It is a good idea to periodically remove the cover and if you have access to an air compressor, or maybe a hair dryer set on "no heat," you can blow off the dust.

You should keep the area in back of your computer as dust-free as possible and invest in a cover - which you would put on after you power off and the system has cooled down.

Good luck.
