Yes we can, but we need to know what those mistakes were in order to learn from them and unfortunately this country (US) does not focus much on instilling the knowledge of our own history and the history of other countries in the sense of what we could learn from previous actions and decisions taken in past and present societies.

Doesn't look like it so far!
One person can learn from mistakes, but when so many ppl get involved it becomes impossible for some reason, almost like we really are only able to think for ourselves & about ourselves no matter how much we would like to do otherwise.
It's gonna take a great power to change something, and considering how much of the population doesn't believe in god is gonna come save us, it might be time to look outside of that box & start looking within ourselves to find the power needed.
I hope we can find it soon. It makes me really uphappy to think of how many other ppl suffer & have suffered in the past when I sit to relax.
Anger is the blinder in this ? If only we could think of what really makes us smile, and then ask someone else the same ? & they ask someone else. Do you think that could start to change the feelings that ppl live w/every day???

Of course we can and we should! all those mighty people who can make so many important world changing/life changing decisions out there....look at all the past mistakes and learn from them. This world would be such a better, beautiful place to live in.

The future belongs to the people, and little by little or in one fell swoop they will seize the power, here and in the whole world. The bad thing is that they have to become civilized, and this can`t happen before, but only after taking power. They will become civilized only by learning at the cost of their own errors, which will be serious ones, and which will cost many lives. Or perhaps not, perhaps they won`t be innocent, because they will have committed the enormous sin, signified by lacking the ability to adapt."

Yes I believe we can. In every situation we are in, we can look back at some of the ways that a similar situation was dealt with in the past.
If we are smart, we should refrain from using a technique that failed in the past.

A sign of intelligence is the ability to profit from experience. It's a sad commentary on the human race that history keeps repeating itself. "Live and let live" just isn't understood, a sad reality.

Sure we can - hopefully we can all learn from our mistakes. To end slavery, abuse, genocide, etc.. If we can't learn from our past I feel sorry for our futures!

That is point of learning history, so they tell me.
Never been entirely convinced myself, I think it perpetuates all the hatred etc. into an new generation - unfortunately.
