If you like trees, Humboldt County in northern California is reasonably priced and incredibly beautiful with all the redwoods, the coast, and mountains. It is a bit remote, although there is an airport in Arcata, near Eureka. It's a 7 hour drive from San Francisco up the 101.

You should live in Utah. There is year round activities. Even though it is predominately Mormon (Latter-day Saints), they make great neighbors. Look into it. Tons of jobs.

Kentucky. It is an awesome state to live in, it has beautiful scenery, does not get that much snow in the winter, few tornadoes.
