There was a point in my marriage where there was not money not even for inexpensive gifts as all of our money was directed towards bills and the babies.

Here is a great birthday present for your husband and it won't cost you a thing except time and ingenuity. The morning of the birthday lay a card (or a hand written note) on his breakfast plate wishing him a happy birthday with love etc. You know what he likes. Tell him that his surprise will be given to him that evening.

On your part. Clean and freshen your bedroom to the nth degree. If someone you know has a garden ask for some flowers. If you have candles put them around the room. If you have sprays or perfumes that he enjoys spray the freshly made up bed with them. If you have a small stereo or little boom box put it in the room and make sure to have some romantic music CD's available. Prepare before hand a cold meal. It could be sandwiches or a cold salad. Bake him a cake with. If possible have a small table set up in the room with this laid out. If you have china and crystal (or just your prettiest dishes & glassware) use them. Lay out your prettiest nightie. If you have children see if a friend could possibly take them for the night or even just for the eveing. When the birthday fellow comes homes home treat him to a loving hug and kiss. Maybe run him a bubble bath then wash him all over yourself. If no bath a shower together. Finally lead him into the bedroom that you have so lovingly prepared for him. Spend some time dancing to the music, making out, fondling then take him to bed and make love to him. Try this and see if your husband doesn't think that he has had the best birthday ever. Just time and effort on your part. I know this is long winded. Sorry. Good luck with your quest for a birthday present.
