How much does a new car cost? If it is a Kia, you might get it for under $10,000 (US), and if it is a Ferrari. you might have to pay over $500,000 (US). Do you get the picture?
The best advice is to have several reputable contractors bid on installing a new system in your house. Make sure they are all bidding on the same brand of equipment and then you will be able tomake an intelligent buying decision.
Good luck with your cooling project.

I'm guessing your asking about a simple replacement in a current forced air home A/C unit. If this correct, then you got stuck with the new regulations. Your "beloved" politicians mandated that all new A/C units be a new one with a SEER (efficiency rating) of 13. Ok this sounds wonderful, but now you cannot simply change the outside compressor. THese new unit are not compatible with the old lines and inside coils. SO this has raised the new cost for all three componets to about double the old cost We use to be able to change the outside unit for about $1300-1500, even less for a small simple unit. SO for one the whole new three units at least $2400 and up. Most average size houses no more than 3000. But where you live will have a bearing on the cost. Good luck ,,,Vote right next time... fl inspect

Just the condenser alone can cost over a thousand dollars.
Installed, etc. you are looking at 3-5 grand, that's IF you have the appropriate ductwork, etc--then we're talking upwards of 8-9-10 grand.

Impossible to answer, too many unspecified variables: Square footage of the home? What type of heating system, i.e. forced air or steam or baseboard? What area of the country, i.e. heat pumps or compressors required. More details required.
