All through the years Israel has to stop defending it's self. Then they try and make peace accords again. As hezbollah and hamas grow bigger each time.

Israel should have the right to defend itself in any way it deems appropriate, as should Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon. Hezbollah was trying to taunt them into a region-wide conflict, and they succeeded. Unfortunately, as is usually the case in mid-east conflicts, the heaviest price is paid by civilians. Israel's death toll in the fighting to date is 24, half of them civilians. At least 130 people have been killed by Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, most of them were civilians.

I doubt UN involvement would make much of a difference on either side, as both have repeatedly ignored UN resolutions many times before.

No, the Israelis and most of our media are lying as usual.

But here's the truth people :)

"basically the current stage of what's going on -- there's a lot more -- begins with the Hamas election, back the end of January. Israel and the United States at once announced that they were going to punish the people of Palestine for voting the wrong way in a free election. And the punishment has been severe.

At the same time, it's partly in Gaza, and sort of hidden in a way, but even more extreme in the West Bank, where Olmert announced his annexation program, what’s euphemistically called “convergence” and described here often as a “withdrawal,” but in fact it’s a formalization of the program of annexing the valuable lands, most of the resources, including water, of the West Bank and cantonizing the rest and imprisoning it, since he also announced that Israel would take over the Jordan Valley. Well, that proceeds without extreme violence or nothing much said about it.

Gaza, itself, the latest phase, began on June 24. It was when Israel abducted two Gaza civilians, a doctor and his brother. We don't know their names. You don’t know the names of victims. They were taken to Israel, presumably, and nobody knows their fate. The next day, something happened, which we do know about, a lot. Militants in Gaza, probably Islamic Jihad, abducted an Israeli soldier across the border. That’s Corporal Gilad Shalit. And that's well known; first abduction is not. Then followed the escalation of Israeli attacks on Gaza, which I don’t have to repeat. It’s reported on adequately.

The next stage was Hezbollah's abduction of two Israeli soldiers, they say on the border. Their official reason for this is that they are aiming for prisoner release. There are a few, nobody knows how many. Officially, there are three Lebanese prisoners in Israel. There's allegedly a couple hundred people missing. Who knows where they are?

But the real reason, I think it's generally agreed by analysts, is that -- I’ll read from the Financial Times, which happens to be right in front of me. “The timing and scale of its attack suggest it was partly intended to reduce the pressure on Palestinians by forcing Israel to fight on two fronts simultaneously.” David Hearst, who knows this area well, describes it, I think this morning, as a display of solidarity with suffering people, the clinching impulse."

When the American people stop their government from sending $90 Billion of their taxes to Israel to support their barbaric acts then the fighting will stop.

http://www.vestedowl.com/counterpoint_results.htm

And also when the American people stop their governments from vetoing any chance of a peaceful settlement, then maybe there will be an agreement.

Hope that helped :)

The U.N. is a eunuch. It has no stomache. It is weak and considers everything as politics.

Israel has every right to defend itself ... and every right to draw a line in the sand. They drew that line ... explained what would happen if the terrorists crossed it ... and kept their word.

What the U.N. says about it is just as weak as what they would ever do about it. The U.N. is corrupt and not much more than a forum for political posturing.

I respect Israel for saying, "enough is enough" ... and for acting in their own defense. They have done everything in their power to try to forge peace in the Middle East ... and been greeted with terrorism.

Go Israel!!

The Israelis are perfectly able at this time to take care of themselves militarily against the Hezbollah terrorists. Their answer to Hezzbollah's actions is certainly overkill, but so were our nuclear bombs on Japan in World War Two. Do I hear anybody dumping on Harry Truman?

The UN will come in, they are still counting the dead and dying. The death toll has to reach a specific number before they intervene.

Oh... and btw, they don't MAKE peace, they KEEP peace. So they won't go in till Isreal and Hezbollah sign some treaty or something.

No. I think the UN should commit troops to helping Israel defend itself from its neighboring attackers.

It's not going to happen, mind you, because the UN doesn't really have any military or political clout anymore. And if the UN tries to pressure Israel into not defending itself from attacks, Israel is just going to ignore the UN. Much like the US has.

HAHAHAHA are you kidding me???? Who do you think is SUPPORTING Israel in its continued war-mongering?? Hmmm? Yes, you know that country that gives it the choppers, artillery, tanks and so on? Have a wild guess!

Besides, thanks to Dubya that UN has lost all credibility and is really more a talk-shop than anything else. Not to mention, they only have peacekeepers, not peacemakers - how on earth would they stop these people??? They didn't stop us from going into Iraq - despite OVERWHELMING international uproar - do you really think they can or would stop Israel, on of the TWO top recipient of US funded military support???

The only time the U.N. acts with lighning speed is when it condemns Israel. If they were to agree to anything favorable toward Israel we'd still be waiting when hell freezes over.

U have generated fundamentalism by being unjust. now i think it is only for u to reap its fruits. UN, Israel, USA are one entity in this game. The point is where do you stand as a humanbeing? With humanity or with the powerful exploiters who create mess and then get an excuse to bomb people to remove that mess and then in the process generate more and more mess till we get sucked deeper and deeper into hate?

I think the U.N. should keep their noses out of everyone business. Israel needs to protect themselves from any country that attacks them. Just like America needs to protect themselves against terrorist.
