1. The main image is the the realisation that the mirror gives her that she is getting old and there is nothing she can do to stop it.

2. Because without the mirror she would be unable to see herself for what she truly is and she would believe that she was still young and beautiful.

3. It's not the mirrors fault that she is getting old and starting to lose her beauty. It's just party of the deteriaration of life.

4. The theme of the poem is age and growing old. The woman in the poem wants to stay young and beautiful forever but the mirror is there to show her the harsh reality of life.
