As in attaining some sort spiritual communion with the Supreme Intelligence .a direct channel to salvation
being a muslim, we learn that in Sufism ( the esoteric teaching of Islam ) this concept is taught as the ultimate purpose of human existence, "knowing" God, which is according to Rumi( the famous whirling dervish) is within the reach of every man and woman.... though i am unclear as to the methods and so on and so forth
.
i understand also that it is an underlying metaphysical truth ready to be found in all major religions . so, as for the question,.....can someone explain to me what the heck exactly does it mean by "transcendence of the self"? is there such a thing? can i purchase it through Visa or Master?

and i'm not a shithead dogmatist posting loaded questions here people ,.... so everyone from all faiths or non faith feel free to offer your counter arguments , advise , counsel, rantings, abuse....whatever.

and Thank You in advance for your answers.

no offence taken . i was just trying to pose a question which i feel could potentially draw in cynical and lopsided views in a lighthearted and neutral manner, and as to not take myself too seriously while enganged in serious matters as well.

and my question was how do i achieve this state of being...

yes. But it cannot be done in a crowd. Solo only. have you ever heard from Sufi master that he was attended seminars before he got that which you called enlightement? Be sure, you'll never hear that....nothing you'll hear about his past....nothing you'll hear about his future...for some reason.... State which we call Enlightement has nothing to do with our deliberations about it. Solo, and Solo only. There is no methods will makes you enlightened...only leads you to it...Before enlightement happens you'll drop everything you've learned. Completely.Paradox, but you'll understand that paradox

"i'm not a shithead dogmatist posting loaded questions" hahaha

I don't think the body is disgusting. But I understand why many blame it and want to do damage to the self in order to escape, and I think there's something to such mystical flagellation-- having had the intuition myself.

Sufism is a really beautiful scion of Islam, I'm glad it exists. I loved the quote someone posted here several days ago: "In the desert there are no signs that say thou shalt not eat rocks"

I've only had tangential experience with ancient hindu text and buddhist, but they too both follow some path to either becoming one with the godhead and attaining the Self, or annihilating the self, coming to turiya. But at the end of our concepts Self is no different from non-self. It depends on what makes you most comfortable. Sitting zen meditation worked best for me. Others may want to use a mantra and awaken themselves to their profundity-- I'd rather just stop thinking.

There are many texts to explore that will be as straightforward as "How to meditate," to as distant as Bhagvad Gita, Upanishads, the Platform Sutra. Eknath Easwaran was a local guru where I'm from-- he's writen many good translations and he has a book on Meditation that's open to all backgrounds, I believe. Cheers~
