I want to know because at the bottom of advertisements for body building products, it always says that the model has been "remunerated."

Remunerated means paid a salary, wage or fee for work done or paid a bonus

In the UK where I am, at least, it is often associated with professional fees (possibly just because it's a fancy-sounding alternative to fees); for example a lawyer would charge or would be paid a "renumeration".
