Well, they are illegal in Ca. because if they get out they will compete with our gray squirrel population. If you are caught with a suger glider you are looking at a 4,000.00 fine and 5-10 years in jail.

--There is some fear that animals will get free, multiply , and become problem animals, 'pests' ---like Nutria in the south, the mongoose in Hawaii, European snails in California.
( Though other non natives, like Chinese Ring-neck Pheasants are released on purpose-- )
---Because law makers like to tell people what to do, "for their own good", laws are also sometimes made to stop folk from having Any unusual pet---(you can't have a pet crow in my state, but you can shoot em all you want)

Not only is it cruel to take wild animals out of their habitats and put them in cages, their diets are very specialized and if they miss even some minor food they would normally eat in the wild, they can become very sick, weak and die. This is expecially true of sugar gliders and many reptiles.

Because it's a wild animal that has not been domesticated. Wild animals belong in the wild. States that make these illegal are doing it for the survival and betterment of the species. It's cruel to take a wild animal out of it's natural habitat.

they are seen unique animals and want specific care and are high priced. whilst they get sick there are not many vets that are qualified to guard them. they want specific forms of nutrition and want various interest. various human beings won't be able to guard them correct... canines are person-friendly to guard... walk it regular for a million/2 an hour on the least, circulate to a puppy shop and purchase some nutrition, play with it... etc comparable with cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, snakes...
