clean the wound every couple hours with peroxide. there is no place that is going to give it care for free, and not be suspicious that you are the ones that did this to the animal.
if it is having problems eating, get an eyedropper, and mix some cornmeal and water in a bowl, feed the rabbit the cornmeal mixture with the eyedropper, as it really does need at least some nourishment to help it get well. try and feed it at least 2 times a day, and try and get it to eat at least 3 eyedroppers full of the cornmeal mixture.
again, theres no good way to treat an animal that has a sore like this on its foot. if you can find gauze, pour peroxide over the wound, wait for it to dry a little, and then wrap the gauze around it, being sure this gauze is removed every 3 or 4 hours, 5 hours max, and the rinse with peroxide is repeated. do not reuse any gauze. it can be expensive, but this is something you are going to have to change in order to keep it from getting infected. if it is already infected, you really do need some antibiotics, and i dont know where you'll get them for free.
indications of infected wounds include a white secretion coming out of the wound, a smell of rotting flesh, or the if the wound looks extremly inflamed, his foot is probably in extreme need of medical care.
since every vet is different, try calling the ones in your area up, and telling them about the rabbit, and where you found it. they might or might not help you.

I would search on Petfinder.com and find a rabbit rescue that will take him/her in. He REALLY needs vet care ASAP. Most of the rabbit rescues are very full because people buy these poor animals and give them away a few months later when they are bored.
It is VERY nice that you took this little guy in!!
Unfortunately, some shelters will put him down because it is not worth fixing him up due to the overpopulation of rabbits.
Again, you can search on Petfinder.com. Go on the lefthand side and act like you are looking for a rabbit to adopt. It might give you an idea of who in your area helps these little guys out.

You may be able to place some antibacterial medication on the wound. Clean it with peroxide and use some cream bacterial material to help heal the wound. Remember to use some type of wrapping material that George will not bite off. Have you ever seen a dog or cat with a lamp shade looking device around its neck? That is there to prevent the animal from biting off or licking of medication. Just a quick answer, good luck.

Fact is that rabbits can need vet help that will be expensive. If you don't take it to a vet then it will likely die from the injury on his foot because rabbits get abcesses very easily. Please think of the good of the rabbit here. I suggest you bring it to a House Rabbit Society or your local shelter so they can heal it. If you truely care for this bun you will get it the help it deserves.

Put some triple-antibiotic on Georges wounds. Keep him in the cage. Feed him grass, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, or anything leftover from supper. (No meat) Talk to the local newspaper, explain to them the situation, see if they will let you run a free ad. Be sure to mention the free cage in the ad. If it is a nice one, I've paid $40-50 for them at the Farmers Co-op. Remember, all things happen for a reason, the person who put George where you found him probably knew you'd be the person who found him. God will Bless you.

Well, if you take it to the Animal Controll and explain that situation, tell them that someone left it in front of you house, that you guys wishes to keep him but have no money for the expenses. They will treat the rabbit for free, but will tell you that they have to keep the rabbit, probably a week to see if the owner request him back, and if he doesn't, then they will call you and tell you that you can adopt the rabbit. But Animal Contro, are the only one that takes care of that. They did that with a dog I have, and they took care the dog and all I need to pay was $15.00.
I lost a rabbit, brown with floppy ears, we used to call him chubby. Never found him again. :'o(

I found an abused dog and took her in. I called the local vet told him what was going on and he gave me a 90% discount on services. I'm sure that doesn't happen often, but it is worth a shot. Oh and take lots of pictures, I took them to the humane society and filed a report.

You need to find a local rabbit rescue in your area IMMEDIATELY, the animal needs medical care and a rabbit rescue can get him to the vet and fixed up. He will most likely die without medical treatment. If you tell me what town you live in I could assist in finding you a local rabbit rescue. My e-mail is wendi_just_me@yahoo.com

the fur will grow back, but slowly, make sure to keep him/her away from flies. As for the open sore, you can go to a pet store and usually get treatments for them there.
