-k- everybody, what's funnier when people fall down: is it funnier when they trip and fall on their face with their arms outstretched in front of them, or when they slip on something and fall on their a ss with their arms outstretched behind them? The funniest "falling down" incident I've ever witnessed was a police officer in full uniform coming to the scene of a possible crime, he had to come down this 15' high grassy knoll. He slipped and slid the whole way down on his *** with his arms flailing. What made it funny was that before he fell he was trying to look so important and official but after he fell, he looked just like any other goof-ball that isn't paying attention to where they're going.

Look at all these high and mighties looking out for the poor fall guy. Someone falling forward is far more funny as they always have to fall over something and usually involves carrying stuff, falling backwards you just slip on something that can happen to anyone.
definitely the 1st option.

The backwards fall. The face plant while humorous-looking often evokes a painful sympathetic groan rather than a laugh. Similar to the bicycle/inline skater doing a knut krunch when failing to ride a rail.

Well to all those holy rollers, let's be honest every once in a while you get some amusement from someone else's suffering. It's OK to admit it...we're all sinners anyway.
Personally, I think it's funnier when someone slips on something and falls beckwards. Sometimes they land right on their tailbone, then they have to get up and walk around rubbing their butt.

best laugh I ever had was seeing a fat girl falling down a horse. First of all, she held on to the saddle and mane, then she continually slipped WITH the saddle. I still **** myself laughing at that one.

It's funnier when dignified people (models, presidents, royalty) fall down. And flailing their arms sweetens it.
