My state is passing a law to ban cell phone use for anyone under 18 while driving.

Can't drink until 21.

Can't drive a car in my state at will until 18.

BUT, you can join the military at 17 (with parental consent) and after basic while you are still only 17, you can go fight and die in Iraq.

This makes no sense.

Actually, in my state, it is illegal for anyone to talk on a cell phone and drive at the same time and I agree with this 100%. People are less attentive to driving while talking.

It is a matter of safety. Our state you can drive at 16 but alone not with anyone under 21 unless a parent.
I say cell phones while driving should be banned for everyone.People have a hard enough time paying attention with out that to distract.
Don't know what to say about the military. It has always been that way and probably always will.
Don't join if you don't want to.That is something that will affect your life not someone walking or driving down the street.

It is not age discrimination as much as it is maturity discrimination, not accounting for the fact that some youth mature faster then others.

Actually the ages are arbitrary. 21 is considered the age of legal drinking because of the irresponsibility of youth (especially guys, as the gals mature faster) younger than that. In other words, 21 is the age of sensibility, supposedly.

Insurance companies do not normally consider a youth a mature driver until about 25. This is based on the fact that young driver tend to treat the car as a "fun thing" and get into accidents much more often than mature drivers. Under 25 usually gets a much higher fee for insurance.

The states I know of give a learners permit at 16.

As for the military, the only possible way they can get enough canon fodder is with the youth, as youth love excitement and tend to think they are indestructible and will live forever.

By the way, if you want to talk age discrimination, try looking at what happens when you get older. After 50, trying to get a job is downright impossible. And one that is true, although hard to believe. Some young folks think that seniors ought to be euthanized because they are too old and should make way for the young.
