when people go to see entertainers they are not wanting to hear their political views. it is inappropriate for any entertainer to use that forum to take political stands. now, if they had publicized in advance they were going to speak against the president and the war then they would have given everyone advanced notice what they were going to say thus then each person could elect whether to buy a ticket or not.
many entertainers publicize concert benefits for various political party's ahead of time giving everyone the option to attend.
the dixie chicks have every right to hold their on views and speak about them as well.
i'm sure many of their fans are conservatives, republicans, moderate, conservative democrats, and independents who would prefer, when they are paying top dollar for concert tickets, to hear them sing not their political views pushed on them in a concert!

They did express their opinion and were chastised for it which I think was bull. Last time I checked we still lived in America and in this country we have the right to express our opinions with out the fear of persecution. There are many other celebrities who disagree with Bush politics and why the Chicks were the only ones who suffered a major loss for their beliefs I do not know but I do not agree with the way they have been treated for saying what they did. I commend them for having the guts to express their beliefs regardless of the consequences.

the dixie chicks can express there own opinion but the bush people that own the radio stations can stop playing there music. was it telcom that started the whole thing and were they owened by the bush family.there is a lot you have to learn about free speech in america .THEY control the press as much as they complain nothing is printed without there approval even if they complain about it they leaked it or let it out for there own reasons and the chicks found out the hard way what speaking your mind can do if you like money .they can ruin you and add to it the audits they went through that they refuse to speak about for rear of retributuion by the irs that settled there case for 11.2 million in taxes or the moms would of gone to jail.
THEY were warned but still can not keep there mouths shut so they will have a battle on there hands again and who wins the government and lawyers who are all working for the government .
THERE is no free speech left in america except the web and the government wants control of it too.
WATCH and see who gets to run it now that it is a threat to the security of the U.S.A. it is monitered heavily and soon will be run by the feds.

The backlash against the Dixie Chicks is just one of many examples of how the majority of voters would willingly give up their most precious freedoms in exchange for the illusion of feeling a little safer. People in this country take their freedom for granted so much they don't even recognize that it could be taken away by a simple Constitutional amendment or a law like the Patriot Act.

They have every right to express their opinion. Thats what the freedoms of America are all about. And I have every right to express mine too, which I intend to do by never supporting the dixie chicks again.

I have yet to see them stop expressing their opinions... When did they stop? I would love to see that!
They have expressed, and expressed, and expressed their opinions. Their problem was that it drew negative attention to them. They can not handle the freedom and its responsibility that they were so ready to use in another country.
Sure, it was NOT good that some people made threats against them. But the fact that some people choose not to buy, play, listen to their music or see them in concert is simply more people expressing their opinions.
I think what may surprise the DCs is that people aren't staying away from their concerts so much because of their political opinions...it's that they don't want to pay $50 to go to a political rally.
They were born in America...so they can spout all they want. Just don't be surprised when people don't pay to listen to them.
When we pay (no matter what our political affiliation), we would rather hear experts.
(oh, and as they continue to not only bash the president, vice president, they have added to their collection other country music stars, country music fans, and anyone else...apparently...they are of the mindset, if you aren't with us, you are against us)

The Dixie Chicks can express their opinion (remember freedom of speech) but the choice that they made comes with dire consequences). They had a Dixie Chicks bonfire of all of their albums in Texas I believe because of what they said towards Dubba (Bush)

You are absolutely right. But the one thing about Free Speech that people don't like is the fact that we all reserve the right to use our free speech to respond. Whenever we exercise our right to free speech, we must keep in mind the consequences. For example, if I stated that I wanted to harm a politician - well, I have a right to say it, but I'd likely be arrested! The Dixie Chicks take stands on unpopular topics and thus they reap what they sow - hate.

They are free to express their opinion. You are also have to accept the consequences if there are any. If you thought your boss was stupid would you tell him so? Should you expect to keep your job? The freedom of speech is with regards to the government and is not something that means that you have to put up with other people no matter what stupid things they say.
