****** is a racial epithet used to refer to dark-skinned peoples. During the period when slavery was practiced worldwide, and in particular by the United States and European countries, and for several decades after Europe and North America prohibited slavery, it was a standard, casual English term for black people. The word traditionally has been associated with an overt contempt, a racist assumption of black inherent inferiority, even of bestiality, making it extremely pejorative. In the last 100 years, it has also become an informal and self-referential term among some African Americans. In such a context, it is often spelled "*****," to mitigate offense.
This is not my answer I got it from Wikipedia.

Everyone my attempt to answer this person's questions is not meant to be offensive to anyone no matter what ethic group you were in. Please keep this in mind.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"_ _ _ _ _" is slang in the Black Culture.
To some Blacks the word "_ _ _ _ _" is slang for that is my friend or buddy
To some Blacks the word "Dog" means the same as "_ _ _ _ _."
For example. That's my "Dog" (close friend, someone who is willing to fight on the other person's behalf in case of a fight)
To some hispanics "Esse" or "Homes" means friend, etc...
To some hispanics "amigo" means friend as well is the Spanish language
As someone else mentioned above already, for a Caucasian person or hispanic person to call a Black person a "_ _ _ _ _" is usually considered offensive, and can cause fights.
Usually the terms is used primarily by the same race, it is rare that different races use the same terms to mean the same thing, unless they are in some sort of gang, or grew up together.
I agree with jjeffley why not just called them friend or buddy!

As the word is blanked out, I do not know what word you are referring to, if it is the "n" word then it is a racist term but is a kind of friend term within black culture. However I dont think a white person calling a black person this would be classed as "correct".

To some people of African descent, "N*gga", as used in "That's my N*gga!" may be a term of endearment or affection. To call them a "N*gger" is generally more offensive.
There are African Americans who would consider either term, used by ANYONE offensive.
Instead of using language with so much history and negative baggage attached, why not just call them "Friend"?
I wish you Peace.
